killing it (gently)

GUESS . WHO . FINISHED . THE . JACKET . LAST . NIGHT !

Well ok it’s not 100% finished I still have to do the button holes and buttons and steam it but the worst is over. Well, the worst of the jacket. I still have the terrifying pants to START ON.

But before I get into all that let’s do the usual rewind back into last week. Even though most of what was happening last week was just suit stuff, too. But I do have a few other fun things.

First up, our magic band stickers came!

I put together a Captain America and a Han/Chewie one for him, and he got the standard “Spaceship Earth” design. (I’m glad it came with 2 because I used his extra on one of my plain ones).

I did Leia and Captain Marvel. I only did 2 since I still have my Padme one from December.
We are taking a whole collection of magic bands. I plan to wear a different one every day. Besides the 3 I mentioned above, I’ll also have my spaceship earth one (4), my Ariel one (5), my Haunted Mansion one (6), and… I feel like I had one more with designs on it but I don’t remember. Chase also has a Toy Story and a Chip and Dale.

AND I got some Captain Marvel shorts!

So here’s the suit as of Wednesday evening I think?

This was the front panels finished (with pockets) and attached to the back. After this photo I got the facings put together and pinned in. Got the facings sewn in Thursday night which was the most hair-raising part of the whole thing – trying to get the lapels to be even.

Luna has decided the mattresses in the space room are hers.

One day I’ll finish getting unpacked and get this room set up. But today is not that day.

Friday I got my haircut. Friends came over that night but I got a little sewing done in between. Also picked up Kevin and he stayed over that night to be ready for MidSouthCon saturday.

Saturday morning, got up, ate breakfast, got into costume and headed to the con.

Jedi tricks

We didn’t take a lot of pics inside. Chase got a few on the “real” camera but I haven’t downloaded them yet. I’ll have them up next week! We shopped, said hello to a few folks. Headed out about 2:30.

These are just iphone pics on our way out.

Ok I lied, I did already download one photo because I wanted to post it on IG today.

And the REST will be next week.

The hotel was doing some renovations. The escalator was blocked off and you had to take the stairs and go through the restaurant. That was weird! And they removed the fountain in the lobby!

So then back to work. My goal was to finish the jacket this weekend so I could focus on pants all this week and next weekend. I have a half day friday so that will help.

Saturday night/Sunday morning I got the sleeves finished, lined and in. We are skipping button holes on the sleeves – they’re going to be sewn closed with the buttons sewn on top. Lazy? Maybe, but ever since I pulled his nice black jacket out of his closet to look at its construction and discovered it’s cuff buttons were done that I’ve been like well why I can’t I do that too?!

His pocket lining is super cute.

Sunday afternoon was struggling with finish the hem line.

It just did not want to lay right if I tried pinning it flat. And Chase was busy working on the new garage door opener. So I finally said look tonight I need you in my office until we finish this because I need to keep putting it on you.

Finally got the bottom closed up. It’s NOT perfect but it’s done.

It kinda bothers me that the upper pocket wants to gape open, but I’m making him a pocket square so it’s not going to be a big deal.
We had considered putting shoulder pads in – the pattern calls for it – but the ones we bought were HUGE and didn’t look good. So, since it’s a relaxed linen jacket we went without.

Now I’ve just got to steam the wrinkles of it. I mean it got ironed and pressed a LOT but of course it’s linen so look at it funny and it wrinkles. And at this point I think steaming it will be easiest – I need to remember to pack the steamer to take with us.

TONIGHT – pants. Going to get everything laid out and cut before Chase gets home. Unlike the jacket I haven’t gone through 2 previous mockups with the pants. I did make one quick mockup only to check fit – and thankfully they fit good, just need one tweak that will be easy. I didn’t want to go through the hoops of installing the zipper and everything just to rip it out and have to put it in the actual ones. So please pray this all goes ok.

So yeah that was my St Patrick’s Day. Sewing. LOL.

I’ve really GOT to start packing for Disney so I can take stock of what we need to get this weekend. I know I need sunscreen. I may do that this afternoon before diving into the pants. I’ve got my packing list printed and I’ve started pulling my shirts out I want to take with me. But that’s it. I’m usually much further along by now.

And guess what I have no new art this week. Current Padme is at about 60% but I got distracted last week and didn’t finish her.

I got distracted by twitter. It has bothered me for a long time that I have over 8000 tweets even though I don’t feel like I actually “use” twitter. It’s because I’ve always pushed facebook page and instagram posts over there. So it’s just text and a link and it’s ugly. So I decided to clean it up. I’ve been deleting all that kind of stuff out and in the process I discovered…. I was an avid tweeter from like 2007-2010ish? WAT. I had totally forgotten about that section of my online life. Funny thing is that kind of lines up with the dates I neglected my blog – 2008-2009 I didn’t post here much. I was apparently tweeting instead. It’s too bad that the old twitter image servers are dead – all the oldest pics are gone.
Anyway I got all the junk cleaned out and found an app that automatically reposts my instagram photos as photos instead of just a link. So I’m hoping to “use” it more often.
